My sister inspired me to write down a few of the little things I love about Zeke (4 months old) so I won't forget them in 20 years. I’m also including a few things I love about Kirk as a daddy.
about Zeke
- how he whimpers when he is falling asleep.
- how he nestles up next to me when he eats.
- how he knows when the good stuff is getting close and starts to simultaneously calm down and pant in anticipation.
- when he does his puffy cheek half smiley face.
- that he says, “I love you, mommy” with his eyes.
- when he grabs onto me tightly (a finger, my neck, clothes, whatever he can get) when he is tired.
- that he smiles when he sees me coming to get him out of bed.
- the way he stretches out his arms like a cross while I give him a bath.
- his stoic lack of response to new things, like swimming.
about Kirk
- that he is overly concerned about Zeke to the point that he goes in every night (sometimes more than once) to make sure he is still breathing.
- how he loves making Zeke laugh, especially when it’s by singing a silly song (my favorite are the many varieties of the poopy diaper song).
- how when I threaten to stop sending him picture and video texts of Zeke (because he hardly ever acknowledges or responds to them) he says quite sincerely, “Please don’t stop!”
- how when I go on a trip without him he tells me, “I miss my baby, and you of course.” =)
